The M1 Carbine was one of the most iconic firearms of the 20th century, used by the US military during World War II and the Korean War. Why did the US decide to adopt the M1 Carbine? It fit the bill for a compact and light weight, semi-automatic carbine that fired a cartridge capable of downing an enemy. It was essentially a good medium between the M1 Garand and the M1911A1 pistol. It was definitely able to full fill roles that the M1911A1 struggled with. Some say the M1 Carbine was the first Personal Defense Weapon (PDW).About 6.5 million M1 Carbines were produced, which I'm sure had an impact World War II and the Korean War.
