Let us start with a square object, with a flat surface.
1. For which draw 30X30 mm square using scale and pencil, with the light source coming from the top left (A light source is an angle at which light falls on an object).
2. outline the square border using lemon yellow colour, Start rendering the same colour from the bottom part. As the light source is from top left, therefore, the bottom will be darkest and top area will be lightest.
3. Next, repeat the same process using Indian Yellow colour and try to blend it with the previous colour.
4. Take Burnt sienna colour and outline the border just from the lower part where it will be darkest, blend slowly without using too much pressure. Remember it takes time and precision to get perfect gradation, therefore keep trying and be patient.
5. To get the best results you can blend it again using Indian yellow and burnt sienna. The object we are working on has a flat surface similar to a mobile screen or a flat wall and since it has no volume, therefore, it won't have any shadow.
When this flat surface has volume then it becomes a 3-dimensional object similar to a box or a dice
1. Again, taking the light source from the top left we will be going to render it in the same way we did previously for the square object. By using Lemon yellow, Indian Yellow and Burnt Sienna colour, and will blend the surface of the cube in the same gradation.
2. In the cube, the area nearest to light will be lightest and area away from the light source will be darkest.
3. Make the colour gradation in same direction ie bottom darkest to top lightest.
4. Now render right side of a cube. Since this area will be farthest from the light source therefore it will be darkest from the rest of the sides of a cube.
5. Coming to the top side of the cube the rendering will go lightest as its nearest to the light source.
6. The object we are working on has a thickness therefore shadow will fall right opposite to the light source, we will render it using grey colour, again in dark to light formation.
In the next video, we will work on using the same technique in a jewellery form.
Do try it!
