The Princes of Bentheim-Tecklenburg. In past times, they ruled their own realm in North Rhine-Westphalia. The Rheda Castle in East Westphalia, with over 100 rooms, remains the ancestral residence of the princely family. Today, in the 24th generation, a young family inhabits the castle in Rheda-Wiedenbrück: Maximilian, the hereditary prince of Bentheim-Tecklenburg, and his wife Marissa, née Fortescue from London, along with their three children. It is a noble life in the heart of North Rhine-Westphalia.

The Bentheim-Tecklenburgs are related to almost all the royal houses in Europe. British, Dutch, Spanish, and Swedish royalty have all visited the princely family in one of their castles. Even the famous bestselling author, Rosamunde Pilcher, aunt of the hereditary princess Marissa, visited Rheda Castle, where a rose in the castle garden was named in her honor.

The four castles of Hohenlimburg, Rheda, Clarholz, and Herzebrock form something like the heart of Westphalia. However, few people today know that the County of Limburg was once an independent state. The fate of this region was closely tied for centuries to the House of Bentheim-Tecklenburg. Counts and princes ruled as sovereigns in the Holy Roman Empire.
