An enormous snow maze opened in Zakopane in southern Poland. The structure created out of 60 000 snow cubes and covering 2 000 square meters is set to become the largest frozen labyrinth in the world. It is going to be bigger than ten tennis courts placed together when it is finally finished. The creators of the maze hope the labyrinth will find its way into the Guinness Book of Records.
Yaroslaw Szitasz, maze creator: "More than 50 mountaineers are cutting 60 000 snow cubes and manually placing them to create the maze walls during the 3 weeks. And now you can see the result."

Construction on the maze began in November of last year but the process saw some hurdles along the way because of the unusually warm temperatures prior to the New Year. Now that the maze has been presented to the public, it still needs a bit of renovation due to weather-related problems.
Yaroslaw Szitasz, maze creator: "Unfortunately, it is deforming. Wind and rain are destroying the maze, even not sun. And we need to reconstruct it from the beginning."
Yaroslaw admits to getting lost in a maze a few times, but he says visitors can easily discover their way out.

It took us 40 minutes to get out from the labyrinth. Not bad for the first time, isn't it? The average time of finding the way out is half an hour.
Every group of the maze explorers tries to develop their own strategy of finding the exit.
Piotr Waliszewski, labyrinth visitor: "You can find the exit if you are lucky. I'm just going around, laughing and seeking it. This is my strategy."
Albert Zeszow, labyrinth visitor: "I try to see where people are going and understand where the race is the shortest. And sometimes I look up to see the exit."
Labyrinth visitor: "We are walking in a circle and don't know where the exit is. One man told us to stick to the left side, but we follow the right side."
The creators hope that maze will not melt in February. They are going to seize more territory with the snow cubes in order to set the new world Record as the largest snow maze. The current record holder for the world's biggest snow labyrinth was built in Canada and measured 1 700 sq m.
