Carlos Sainz Sr. lost his victory at the eighth stage of the Dakar due to a penalty. Sainz finished with the best time of the stage, but due to a penalty of 5 minutes, he dropped to 3rd place. The winner of the race was Sebastien Loeb. In second place is Nasser Al-Attiyah.
