STORYLINE:
About one hundred supporters of Germany's The Left party gathered in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin on Tuesday to demand the withdrawal of German troops from Afghanistan.
Protesters carried banners and signs demanding an end to the war and the immediate return of German troops.
The demonstration was held the same day the NATO-led force acknowledged for the first time that Afghan civilians were killed in a German-ordered airstrike last week on two stolen fuel tankers.
Chancellor Angela Merkel said Tuesday in Berlin that she would not accept premature judgments over the actions of German forces and pledged German support for a thorough investigation.
