This Toyota GT86 boxer has been sat under the covers for 2 long weeks as I had gone on holiday. I was concerned about parasitic load and the cold winter temperatures draining the batter's charge to the point it wouldn't start. Bear in mind the Subaru FA20 boxer has 2 cylinder banks and run a very high 12.5:1 compression ratio thus requiring a higher cranking torque and the corollary being Cold Cranking Amps too.
The brake disc rotors were also corroded and this took a few rounds of stopping the vehicle to finally clean off. Expect the wheels to lock up during this process, especially if the ground is wet / icy.
Lastly, when starting up a wet sump engine after a long time; it is important to let the engine oil circulate in idle to reach and coat all parts before driving off. This is especially important in an engine that uses a timing chain like this one.
Here's what I did on this cold winter Christmas day.
