Vallée de Mai is a unique rainforest on the Seychelles. It is home to the world's largest seed: the coco de mer (Lodoicea maldivica). The coco de mer originates can only be found on the islands of Praslin and Curieuse in the Seychelles Islands. The coco de mer produces the world's largest wild fruit and the world's heaviest seeds. A single seed may be 12 inches long, nearly 3 feet in circumference, and weigh over 20 kg (40 pounds). People have been killed by falling seeds.
The coco de mer seed is not just huge and heavy, its shape is extraordinarily similar to that of a pair of female buttocks. These two qualities have given the seed a special status around the world. It is also why travellers want to visit Vallée de Mai to see these strange nuts.
