During Albanian terror on Kosovo and Metohija, in just three days, from 17th to 20th March 2004, 35 Orthodox temples and cultural monuments were destroyed.
In the gorge of the river Bistrica, 3 kilometers away from Prizren, there was the St. Archangels Monastery, the foundation and mausoleum of Czar Dusan. It was built in the first half of the 14th century.
When Turks came the Monastery was abandoned. A part of the material was used for building the Sinan--Pasha Mosque in Prizren in the 17th century. Today there are still capitols from the St. Archangels'.
The monastery consisted of religious, civil and military compounds. On the hill above there was Dusan's Citadel named Visegrad. The site of St. Archangels' was preserved only on foundation and walls.
March of 2004.
After Albanian ravaging the St. Archangels' the monks have no place to return to, since the whole wooden construction as well as the furniture were burnt down, as it was said in the Raska -- Prizren's Eparchy after monk Benedict, from the St. Archangels, visited the site in the KFOR escort two days after continuous Albanian uncontrolled raging. The tombstone on the Czar Dusan's tomb is broken. The tomb was opened and desecrated. St. Nicholas' Chapel was burnt. The bell tower is completely torn down. The Monastery's engraving workshop was burnt to the ground. The parts of the burnt inventory are scattered all over the monastery portal. The return of monks and renewal of the monastery is forbidden by German KFOR.
