Featured are Illinois Central locomotives and trains in the era just prior to the railroad's take over by Canadian National. North and southbound fast freights share a largely single track route from Chicago, Illinois, to New Orleans, Louisiana, along the famous "Mainline of Mid-America." Amtrak passenger trains add variety to the mix, including and especially the famous intercity "City of New Orleans."
