We picked up a used 2020 Ford Explorer XLT and I noticed that these headrests did not flip down properly when we bought it but figured this shouldn't be too bad of a fix as long as the vehicle drives nice otherwise.

A few nights ago I pulled the one seat apart and cracked open the mechanism to see if it was something I could re engineer to work but I decided that I best just replace them.

So here is the overall procedure to take apart the 3rd row seat covers and cushions to access and remove the head rest flip down mechanisms.
I also dissected the failed head rest mechanisms to see what fails inside them.
