Disclaimer: All my tutorial videos are based on my own experience with my birds.
Bringing home a new Mate for your existing lovebird is very exciting, but you must follow the proper steps before placing them together in order to have a happy and successful breeding pair.
-Must keep the new bird in a separate cage in quarantine for at least 30 days.
-After quarantine time is up, you must place the new bird next to the cage of the bird you want it to breed with.
-Must let them get to know each other in their own separate cages for a week or two before placing them together.
-Once the 2 weeks is up, place them together and watch them closely to make sure they don't fight.
Placing new birds together right away can be deadly, like humans, lovebirds like to get to know their potential mate and choose them. It's also a bad idea to do so in case the new bird is sick from a virus. Take you time and be patience, make sure your lovebirds are over the 10 months of age and that you know for sure that you have a proven pair before you attempt to let them breed. Best of luck!
