Atrial fibrillation is the most common heart rhythm disorder. The lifetime risk of AF is around 25% for anyone over 40 and the disorder carries a four to five fold increased risk of stroke. Strokes caused by AF are also often more severe. However, many people are unaware of the association between the disorder and stroke.
This AF Association video explores atrial fibrillation and the associated significantly increased risk in stroke. It examines the importance of managing stroke risk in AF patients and how best to achieve this.
It also examines how sometimes patients can inadvertently be lost from the best care pathway and the importance of a long term care plan to get them back on it.
