Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations accused British special forces of staging the scene of a war crime in Ukraine in a bizarre address to a meeting called to mark a thousand days since the Russian invasion.
Vasily Nebenzya, the Russian representative to the UN, claimed that Britain had faked evidence of a Russian massacre of civilians at Bucha, northwest of Kyiv — as a ploy to turn the Ukrainian public against a supposed peace deal.
Nebenzya, who offered no evidence for the claim at the security council meeting, maintained that this was part of an effort by Boris Johnson, prime minister at the time, who visited Ukraine in April 2022, to ensure the war continued.
