(18 Jun 2020) PRESIDENT MACRON AND PRINCE CHARLES MARK APPEL AT CLARENCE HOUSE
French leader Emmanuel Macron met with British royals in London Thursday (18 JUNE 2020) as part of events marking Charles De Gaulle's famed World War II appeal to resist the Nazis.
Prince Charles and his wife, the Duchess of Cornwall, received Macron at his Clarence House home with a Guard of Honour formed by the Number 7 Company of the Coldstream Guards and their band.
The De Gaulle's "Appel'' was transmitted via a BBC broadcast to his countrymen on June 18, 1940, urging them to fight on despite the fall of France.
The speech is widely considered to be the moment that gave birth to the French Resistance.
In a reflection of the importance of the event, the trip marks Macron's first international trip since France's lockdown amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
