There are a select group of neoplastic and inflammatory pancreatic diseases including IgG4-related sclerosing disease, type 1 autoimmune pancreatitis, and pancreatic ductal and mucinous adenocarcinoma that are analogs of similar hepatobiliary conditions. In the article by Katabathina et al, the similarities in biliary and pancreatic embryology and anatomy as the basis for these “biliary diseases and their pancreatic counterparts” are explored, with a focus on the cross-sectional findings that contain considerable overlap with one another.
