Entering its 10th edition this year, the prestigious competition will see aspiring teams from around the globe battling it out as they make the lions come alive with the beat of the drums and mesmerize you with their stunning acrobatic performances coupled with synchronized agility.
Jointly organized by the Selangor & Federal Territory Lion Dance Association, the Genting World Lion Dance Championship's objectives are to improve and enhance the standard of the lion dance performances across the world. It is hoped that such exposure will spur young and talented participants to challenge themselves to original ideas and moves that will take lion dancing to greater heights.
Since its inception in 1994, the number of participating teams to the World Lion Dance Championship have steadily increased, starting with 13 teams from 8 countries, we now have 36 teams from around the world! This year, we are honored to have a gathered of the best lion dance troupes from around the globe to vie for the title of the "World Lion King". Besides Malaysia, we have teams from Singapore, Indonesia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, Japan, USA, UK, Australia, Myanmar, Vietnam, Cambodia, Macau, Brunei, Mauritius, Republic Reunion, Philippines and France.
