World Athletics has announced that, due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic, the qualification period for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games has been suspended until the start of December, ruling out any results which might be recorded from April 6 to November 30.

It is a decision which has received mixed reaction from athletes and fans and in an interview World Athletics president Seb Coe discussed the "difficult balance".
