(30 Jul 2019) The lawyer for a 19-year-old British woman who faces a public nuisance charge in Cyprus after admitting she falsely accused a dozen Israeli teenagers of rape said on Tuesday the defence needed more time to study all of the police evidence in the case.
Lawyer Andreas Pittadjis also questioned the motive behind why video footage of his client reportedly having sex with the Israelis was leaked online.
Pittadjis said a judge had accepted the defence's bid for a week-long adjournment look over the evidence, after which they would be able to "make a decision" on whether to plead guilty or not guilty.
The woman will remain at a detention facility until her next court appearance on August 7, and kept her face hidden as she was escorted out of the court on Tuesday.
Pittadjis said the leak of the video was a "much more serious criminal offence" than the charge faced by his client.
