Gov. Gavin Newsom took action Tuesday to prevent the spread of the novel coronavirus within the state prison system. He signed a two-part executive order that aims to protect people working within the system and the inmates. The executive order directs the state department of corrections to stop the intake and transfer of inmates and youth for 30 days. He also ordered parole hearings to be done by video conference.
