This beautiful musical installation was created by carpenter/wood engineer Mitsuo Tsuda and sound designer Kenjiro Matsuo for Japanese phone company NTT DOCOMO, Inc. Featured in an ad to promote one of their products, the enormous forest xylophone was painstakingly engineered and then assembled to play Back's Cantata 147.
The instrument features row upon row of wooden "keys", each of which plays a different note. A single wooden ball is released from the top and rolls down the step-like keys as it progresses with hollow, xylophonic plonks.
