Depot medroxyprogesterone acetate, it is used for 2 purposes. One is for the contraceptive purpose and the other is for heavy menstrual bleed. So whenever a woman uses there drugs, this drug being a long acting drug it causes certain menstrual disturbances like irregular bleeding and when they use this drug for a year, it might stop the menstruation for almost 6 months. If it is used for a year DNPA and if her heavy menstrual bleed is very well controlled, now she has stopped for one year, if her heavy menstrual bleed has come back, then it means that DMPA effect has stopped, that means the drug has come to an end. So now she has to think of alternative medications for heavy menstrual bleed.
