Farmers in Madhya Pradesh have seen one of the fastest growth in agriculture, but the state has the fourth highest rate of farmer suicides in the country. Farmers say that though the BJP has made promises to help them through prices dropping and extreme weather, there have received very little help. Major farmer unions are now encouraging voters to choose candidates based on their promises, not based on their political affiliation to Congress or BJP.
Congress has yet to announce its candidate for chief minister, but Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the current chief minister is contesting for the BJP. The state goes to polls on November 28, and results will be out on December 11.
