KAPALEESWARAR TEMPLE is a Hindu temple. It has been built around the 7th century. This is a Siva Temple. Due to Brahma failed to give due respect to Lord siva He plucked on his heads.After severe penance Brahma came down to the Mylapore installed Siva lingam to please Lord siva. Mylapore is in Chennai, Tamil Nadu state in India. This place is equal to Kailash. “Kailaye Maylai Maylaiye Kailay” Brahma worshipped here to get rid of his ego and got back his head and the power to create. Sukracharya worshipped Lord Siva here and got back his lost eye. Rama worshipped here and won the war against Ravana and brought back his consort Sita from Lanka. The consort of siva, parvathi worshiped siva in the form of peacock to get her original personality. Kapaalam ( head) Eswarar Lord Siva and named Kapaleeswarar and Parvathi is depicted as Karpagambal.
The Arubathimoovar ( 63 Nayanmars ) festival celebrated during the Tamil month of Panguni in the traditional brahmotsavam of annual festival during the mid-March to mid-April English calendar. In Brahmotsavam, the idols of Kapaleeshwarar and Karpagambal are decorated with clothes, flowers and jewels, and taken around the temple on a vahana and is repeated with different vahanas for all the next nine days. The Athigara Nandhi on the third day, the Rishaba Vahanam on the midnight of the fifth day, the Ther Thiruvizha on the seventh morning, are the other impartant festivals on Brahmotsavam.
