Watch the Bold Conversation with Damilola Ogunbiyi, CEO and Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) and Co-Chair of UN-Energy, and Francesco Starace, CEO and General Manager of Enel Group and SEforALL Administrative Board Chair, with the Executive Vice-President for the European Green Deal, Frans Timmermans.
At the UN High-Level Dialogue on Energy (HLDE) last September 2021, Frans Timmermans presented three Energy Compacts, in partnership with the International Energy Agency and the International Renewable Energy Agency. In their roles as Energy Access Champion and Just Transition Champion for the HLDE, Frans Timmermans highlighted the EU's willingness to lead the global efforts to reach universal energy access by 2030 and accelerate the clean energy transition. The European Commission also released its “Fit for 55” legislation package the same year, supporting its commitment to reduce net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030.
2021 offers a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for progress on Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7) — affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all by 2030. With that, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) has launched a new, year-long campaign called BE BOLD to drive ambitious action towards SDG7.
Be Bold is about giving everyone – governments, businesses, development and financial institutions, and everyday citizens – a set of actions to help realize affordable and clean energy for all.
We are now calling on governments and everyone capable of committing to an Energy Compact to do so. An Energy Compact is a public and trackable commitment that governments and institutions can make to show how they plan to help achieve SDG7 targets by 2030.
