This is a very old visual record of me creating a nuno felt scarf, 11 years to be precise! I’d actually made it private here on YouTube then changed my mind as it might be helpful for followers to see how far I’ve progressed over the years. I intend making a totally new video soon with action footage but in the meantime I hope someone might enjoy this oldie. In essence, nuno felt is made by combining a high percentage of fabric with a low percentage of wool or other animal fibre and felting these together until they form a totally new piece of fabric. Polly Sterling and her Japanese studio assistant Sachiko Kataka first pioneered the technique in Australia. This was in direct response to their desire to felt wearable items suitable for a very hot climate.
