The other piece to running speed...
-
Cadence is only ONE part of the equation.
A good example of this is the finishing moments of the 5000m race between Ingebrigtsen and Katir.
What is interesting about this SPECIFIC moment is both of them are pretty much at the same cadence.
Now, how come Jakob is still moving faster even though they are at the same cadence?
This is because your speed is also influenced by your step length.
This refers to how far apart each step is as you run.
HOWEVER, this increase in step length is NOT because he is reaching forward with the foot to take bigger steps as both of them pretty much land close to the body.
Rather this comes from the increased force generated through the legs to move him farther forward with each step.
