Prospects for the Asia-Pacific region post-Covid: A discussion with Changyong Rhee (IMF) and Sherry Madera (Refinitiv)
Why you should watch: The IMF has recently downgraded its economic forecasts for the Asia-Pac region, again. It is now looking at negative growth of 1.6% this year - though it anticipates a bounceback in 2021, with growth of 6.6%. But that's not evenly spread, and much depends on China. More fragile economies - those dependent on tourism and remittances, in particular - face a very difficult recovery, as do those where the coronavirus pandemic is still not under control. There are also important issues of capital flight, liquidity - and, of course, broader concerns about the geopolitical situation.
Moderator: Andrew Hilton (Director, CSFI)
