Thokozani is a poor, uneducated widow with small children. She deserves her money through ‘walking in the night’ in Ndirande slum in Malawi. She hates her work and she is terrified that something bad will happens to her. Therefor she supports the Malawian official ban on prostitution. She is a faithful wife and feels sinful before God. However, because of her work as a prostitute, she can pay her rent, dress up her children and send them to school. According to Thokozani, life of people who remained behind in the villages, is even heavier. Many villagers would be happy to live in a slum like Ndirande.
