Singapore’s exit from Circuit Breaker will occur in three phases to reduce the risk of a second wave of infections, said Minister for Health Gan Kim Yong at a Multi-Ministry Taskforce Press Conference on 19 May 2020. Beginning from 2 June, Phase one will see more people return to work in critical and lower risk sectors. Schools will also gradually reopen, as will certain healthcare services, including dental procedures, chronic disease management services, and traditional Chinese acupuncture treatments for all conditions. To ensure the psychological wellbeing of seniors, certain senior-centric activities will also resume. However, given that seniors are a particularly vulnerable group, activities like karaoke and group exercises will continue to be suspended. Seniors should also continue to stay home, although their children and grandchildren may now visit them, as long as the number of such visits are limited and safe distancing is practiced.
He added that Singaporeans should also expect a rise in the number of cases as the country emerges from Circuit Breaker, and any transition into subsequent phases of economic and social resumption will depend on preventing this number from rising too sharply.
