Welcome back to the channel. Today we will be discussing Martello Towers; roughly 140 heavy masonry defensive structures built by a variety of different militaries worldwide, from roughly the late 1700’s until roughly the early 1900’s.

This type of tower construction originated in Corsica, however Martello Tower construction fell off quickly after 1870. Many went into disrepair, only to have a resurgence in the 1930’s under service of new soldiers... and new purposes.

A very interesting narrative, and very awesome buildings.
