Sky News host Chris Smith says Australians shouldn’t be fooled by “mistruths” from the Chinese Ambassador to Australia’s Press Club speech.
“I couldn't allow Mr Xiao's first public showing to pass, without pulling him up, on two glaring mistruths,” Mr Smith said.
Mr Smith said Mr Xiao claimed China had no intentions to build a military base in the Pacific, despite documents “clearly” showing there were plans to build one in the Solomon Islands.
The Ambassador further claimed Taiwan was a part of China.
“Despite Taiwan maintaining its independence from China since 1949, and operating as a democratic Republic, the Ambassador made the outrageous comparison between Taiwan and Tasmania,” Mr Smith said.
