Germany's Left Party is a largely eurosceptic party. Co-leader Oskar Lafontaine went to court to try and stop the Treaty of Lisbon the new legal basis of the European Union - even though some of the Left Party's own politicians had a hand in creating it. At a recent conference,the Left Party selected candidates for the upcoming European parliament elections. Pro-EU candidates were dropped in favour of eurosceptics. And in their campaign program,the Left Party calls for the nationalisation of electricity,gas and water utilities,for the dissolution of NATO,and for the Lisbon Treaty to be turned into a pacifist doctrine. We take a look at the ideological struggles and the divisions and divides within one of Germany's most controversial political parties.
