Alto Choir Practice: "Fac, ut portem Christi mortem", from 10th movement of "Stabat Mater" by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. "Stabat Mater" hymn is based upon the "Dolorosa" poem which depicts the suffering of Mary , Christ's mother, during his crucifixion. The work is divided into twelve movements, each named after the incipit of the text. Pergolesi composed the work for solo soprano and alto voices during the last few months of his tragically short life at the age of 26.
Fac, ut portem Christi mortem,
Passiónis fac consórtem,
Et plagas recólere.
Fac me plagis vulnerári,
Fac me Cruce inebriári,
Ob amorem Fílii.
Grant that I may bear the death of Christ,
grant me the fate of His passion
and the remembrance of His wounds.
Let me, to my latest breath,
In my body bear the death
Of your dying Son divine.
