To Make Dough
Rice Flour - 1 Cup
Salt - 1 Tsp
Oil
Hot Water
To Make Coconut Mix
Grated Coconut - 2 Tbsp
Curry Leaves
Green Chilli - 1 No.
To Make Tempering
Oil
Urad Dal - 1 Tsp
Chana Dal - 1 Tsp
Mustard Seeds - 1/2 Tsp
Cumin Seeds - 1/2 Tsp
Red Chilli - 2 Nos
Curry Leaves
Asafoetida Powder - 1/4 Tsp
Salt - 1/4 Tsp
Method:
1. To a large bowl, add rice flour, salt and mix well.
2. Add oil and mix again.
3. Next add hot water gradually and make the dough.
4. Knead the dough for 2-3 mins and let it sit aside for 4 mins.
5. Later, divide the dough into equal sized small balls by greasing the palms.
6. Now grease the idli plate with oil and place a few dough balls in each mould.
7. Heat the steamer with water and once the water starts boiling, place the idli plate with dough balls in the steamer and steam cook for 10 mins.
8. Keep aside the cooked doughballs.
9. To a mixer grinder, add grated coconut, curry leaves and green chili. Pulse a few times and keep the mixture aside.
10. Add oil to a pan and then add urad dal, chana dal and mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilies, curry leaves and asafoetida powder and mix well.
11. Drop in the cooked rice dumplings and mix well.
12. Then add the ground coconut mixture. Give it all a quick mix.
13. Serve Mani Kozhukkattai as is.
