Banteay Meanchey: Cambodian and Thai police have worked together to detain would-be migrant workers illegally crossing the border into Thailand. Two police operations netted a total of 64 Cambodians attempting to cross the border in a district of Banteay Meanchey.

Two operations were led on Sunday by Banteay Meanchey’s Provincial Police Commissioner, Sith Loh, in cooperation with Thai border police. The first operation was held at 4:30 in the afternoon, with Chamkar Kor police intercepting 32 Cambodians, including 17 women. They were caught attempting to cross the border at the northern point of the Military Disability Center in Techo Phnom Chhat village.

The second operation happened at around 10 in the evening, when 32 Cambodian nationals, including 16 women were nabbed 20 kilometers into Thailand in the district of Tapraya. Thai police notified the Cambodian authorities, who promptly requested repatriation. The Cambodian nationals remain detained at the Tapraya police station, pending the legal process.
