Attacks on five locations in Paris claimed the lives of at least 120 people, and eight attackers on Friday night, BBC reported.
The most deadly attack occurred at the Bataclan Concert Hall, where a sold out crowd attended an Eagles of Death Metal concert. Gunmen entered the building towards the end of the show, and opened fire with AK-47 assault rifles, an eyewitness told CNN. The attack lasted between 10 and 15 minutes.
According to BBC reports, 80 people were killed and dozens of hostages were held inside of the building until police forces came to the rescue. Four gunmen were killed during the SWAT siege, and three of the suspects were wearing explosive belts, which were detonated as police forces arrived at the scene, according to a report by the Guardian.
Although the motive for the attacks is still unknown, witness overheard the gunmen mention France’s military involvement in Syria and ISIS, the BBC reported. French President François Hollande was quoted by The Guardian as saying: “I pay homage to the country’s defenders who fought the terrorists yesterday. Everyone has given their upmost and will be putting in their best efforts in the day to come.”
