Matchbox Fandango Super GT – the Matchbox Fandango was produced in a Superfast version with a spinning fan blade at the back from 1975-1981 and a Super GT version with a cast fan blade from 1986-1988 according to the Matchbox Cars Wiki. This specific casting is from 1988. Ricky over at Irie Fix Diecasts has invited the community to join him in celebrating 60 years of Independence for Jamaica by painting a casting using at least two colors from the Jamaican flag.

I wanted to retain the “spring” suspension of the original base, so I removed it, went over it VERY well with a wire wheel to remove all the rust. I replaced the wheels with gold wheels from Samed Wheels and then reinstalled the “spring”, pushing it in place…and then using CA glue to fasten it securely.
Continuing to work on the base, I used a silver Sharpie as a base coat on the taillights, then added Tamiya clear red. I chose not to chrome the tailpipes are they have an odd, tiny appearance and I don’t think detailing them would look good in this case.

I cleaned up the body using files, then drilled it for a self-tapping 2-56 screw due to the short post. After a primer basecoat and some additional filing, the body was painted with Testors Model Master Grabber Green lacquer paint.

The windshield was cleaned with Flitz polish, then coated with Gauzy. To reattach the windshield, I used a Bondic resin pen.

I created a custom decal for the fan blade at the back of the car, somewhat similar to the original. I did not create a decal for the hood, because the original looked WAY too much like a tongue to me lol.
