[Link in description] Check out this Van Laar B5 trumpet that just came in on consignment! This is one of the older versions that has an Adams Bauerfeind valve block (they're made with an in-house valve block now). This horn is in great shape!
One cool feature of this horn (very typical of Hub's designs) is the long bell ferrule, which adds a lot of stability to the sound throughout the range of the horn. The bell is what he calls a "conical" taper, so a slower taper along the length of the bell vs a quick taper at the throat and flare. The leadpipe is nice and compact. The horn was handmade in the Netherlands, Van Laar is actually quite close to the Adams factory.
Crisp, with a good core and a a sound shape that's a little darker than a standard Bach 37. It's a very versatile sound. If you push it with a commercial mouthpiece it will light up nicely as well.
