I'm loving working more with the activated charcoal soaps. I learned from my time in art school that bright colors can really be set off by darker colors and the use of black. In keeping with the Vibrant Soap brand, where colors are bright and and illuminating, I've rediscovered how black really makes the colors pop, thereby staying true to my company's branding. If you look back, I also have a fascination with the use of gold. Why not add a little bit of shine the have the whole spectrum of light to dark.
My first imagining of this design was a top studded with lapis lazuli "stones" and bits of gold nuggets. There's a recent soap stone renaissance so this was my way of participating in that too! I rolled the soap pebbles by hand, something you shouldn't do if you're extra sensitive to lye. However, my soap batch for the embeds was light in lye so it would be more pliable, so my hands were fine. After a preliminary portioning and shaping of the pebbles, I let them dry for a couple hours before wetting my hands with alcohol and rolling them again to form a smooth and shiny exterior.
