(5 May 2019) Egypt's President Abdel-Fatah el-Sissi inaugurated on Sunday a series of tunnels linking the Sinai Peninsula to the Nile Delta.
In a ceremony in the canal city of Ismailia attended by foreign dignitaries, el-Sissi officially opened the four tunnels in Ismailia and Port Said.
The tunnels, crossing the Suez Canal, are the biggest of their kind in Egypt.
El-Sissi has embraced painful austerity measures to revive an economy mauled by years of political turmoil and violence.
