(24 Mar 2020) Certain counties across the United States are closing public parks and recreation areas as another safety precaution.
The move means less options for families and pet owners to get out of the house during the coronavirus pandemic.
Some national and state parks are closed to limit the spread of COVID-19, and certain counties in California and Northern Virginia are joining the bandwagon.
Over the weekend Arlington County posted closed signs at all of its parks, playgrounds, outdoor restrooms, tracks, dog parks and athletic courts as way to encourage the public to follow social distancing regulations.
Nicole Eckart was taking her golden retriever Rally to her local dog park twice a day to break up her schedule of working from home.
"They are not shutting down the parts to make people upset. They are just shutting down the parks for our own best interest," Eckart said. "But it's kind of daunting to think about this not being an option anymore because this was our only option to get outside for the longest time. And it was actually really great, so I'm pretty bummed out about it. "
Trails and public gardens in Arlington County are closed to groups but can still be used by individuals for exercise and to get outside.
