The iron ore train in Mauritania is the longest freight train in the world. Sometimes 2 to 3 kilometers long. The train runs from the iron mine in Zouérate to the coastal town of Nouadhibou. About 700 km across the Mauritanian Sahara. A country marked by poverty, where slavery still exists and where the threat of terror has only recently subsided. Traveling on this train often happens in open wagons, where people sleep on the iron ore. Free, but at the risk of your life.
