Happy International Day for the World’s Indigenous Peoples from Karamoja and Bahima representatives who are working together to address the impacts of climate change!
African Least Developed Countries have contributed least to greenhouse gas emissions, but are among the most vulnerable nations to the impacts of climate change, with the least capacity to adapt to these changes.
The threat is particularly acute for indigenous peoples due to their continuing reliance upon natural resources for food security, health, shelter, traditional livelihoods and spiritual life.
UNESCO is working with pastoralist communities in sub-Saharan Africa to promote their knowledge of weather and climate forecasting, enhancing local resilience and adaptation.
