► IN THIS SHORT, our experienced nurse demonstrates the crucial steps for performing a thorough heart assessment. 🩺 She explains how to position the stethoscope correctly to listen to the heart sounds, focusing on key areas such as the apex and base of the heart. The video covers the importance of identifying normal heart sounds (S1 and S2) and recognizing any abnormal sounds.
For an effective heart assessment, we recommend to:
📍Position your stethoscope properly over the key areas to accurately hear the heart sounds.
⏱️ Listen for the full cardiac cycle at each point to identify both normal and abnormal sounds.
The nurse also defines and highlights key heart sounds:
❤️ S1 (First Heart Sound): The ""lub"" sound, indicating the closure of the mitral and tricuspid valves at the beginning of ventricular contraction.
❤️ S2 (Second Heart Sound): The ""dub"" sound, indicating the closure of the aortic and pulmonic valves at the end of ventricular contraction.
🔊 Murmurs: Abnormal heart sounds caused by turbulent blood flow, which may indicate issues such as valve abnormalities.
🔊 Gallops: Extra heart sounds (S3 and S4), which can indicate heart failure or other cardiac conditions.
🔊 Clicks: High-pitched sounds heard during valve movement, often associated with valve disorders.
Understanding these sounds is crucial for diagnosing cardiac conditions and ensuring effective patient care.
By mastering these heart assessment techniques, nurses can perform thorough and accurate evaluations, greatly improving patient outcomes. This video is essential for nursing students and professionals looking to enhance their clinical expertise in cardiac assessments. 🌟 📖 We hope you find it helpful.
