Today we’re comparing four Tone Bender-type fuzzes – the Behringer Fuzz Bender, the JHS Legends Of Fuzz Bender, the Keeley Fuzz Bender… and a free Tone Bender capture I loaded into my ToneX One that sounds amazing!

Oh, and we’re doing the comparison as a blind test too! So your challenge is to see if you can work out which one is which. Place your guesses in the comments and we’ll see how many of you managed to work out which is which.
This video came about after the release of the Behringer Fuzz Bender. This is based on the iconic Sola Sound Tone Bender MK 1.5 – but while it’s a vintage fuzz in terms of build and circuit, it comes with the thoroughly tiny price tag of $69/€59! So, this pedal looks like a great way to get into ‘vintage’ fuzz at a massively affordable price, and this is precisely why I bought myself one.
And, naturally, I wanted to compare it to the other two Benders in my collection: the JHS Bender and the Keeley Fuzz Bender, both of which are USA-built and cost considerably more than the Behringer. They’re also both based on the MKIII Tone Bender, so give you more tonal options, and the Keeley also has a Bias control. This gives you access to the kind of splattery, sputtery, gated, Velcro fuzz tones that are so beloved by modern players like Jack White.
The final pedal in today’s comparison is a Tone Bender capture I stumbled across for the ToneX One pedal. Being digital, it’s a different kettle of fuzz fish to the other three pedals, but it more than holds its own in the shootout here.
Here are the rules of the blind fuzz challenge: I play a succession of riffs with each of the four pedals. Each pedal has a letter: A, B, C or D. Your challenge is to guess which is which!
Let me know if you guess the Behringer correctly, and also tell me which of the pedals you think sounds best in the comments!

21:05 Why you should buy the Behringer Fuzz Bender
My setup was as follows: I ran the pedals into the front end of my Hughes & Kettner Black Spirit 200 amp, then went from the Red Box DI straight into my Focusrite Scarlett 2i4, which went into Logic Pro X. That’s it. No post-processing on the sounds was done. Here’s some links to those bits of gear:
