Rabbits can shed all year round but will often have heavier moults twice a year when heading into spring and autumn, however, some rabbits and especially house rabbits will appear to moult almost constantly.
Regular grooming when your rabbits are moulting will help to prevent any matted fur as well as remove any loose fur that your rabbits may ingest whilst grooming themselves, which can cause blockages.
• Before grooming your rabbits, make sure that you have everything you will need ready, so you don't have to leave your rabbit unattended to grab anything you have forgotten.
• Place your rabbit on a towel either on top of a table, or on your lap, or if they are prone to jumping then it may be safer to groom them whilst they are on the floor.
• Gently brush in the direction of hair growth, taking care around your rabbits' ears and eyes. Taking short breaks to pet your rabbit will also help to keep them calm and relaxed.
During a heavy moult, it may be necessary to brush your rabbits daily. You can break these sessions up into short daily sessions so they will be less stressful for your rabbit.
