WARNING: EXPLICIT LYRICS (it’s Motörhead ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ )
Hola !!! Great Saturday to all.
Misirlou means Egyptian woman.
It’s a folk song.
The actual composer hasn’t been identified, but by the 1920s musicians from Greece, the Middle East and of Jewish origin were playing it widely.
The first version was recorded in 1927 and the lyrics talked about the forbidden love between a Greek (Christian) man and Misirlou, an Egyptian Muslim girl.
Our version of Misirlou is based on Dick Dale’s awesome surf guitar version from the 60’s.
And the question is .... Why did we played it along with Orgasmatron by Motörhead ?🧐 Because the rhythm pattern on the drums is almost identical. Musically, they sound very similar :-) But check this out... Lemmy, Motörhead’s front man (for the non metal heads), also wrote Orgasmatron’s lyrics and they talked about the 3 things he hated the most!
Organized religion, politics and war
So I guess at least without the religious barrier ... Misirlou wouldn’t have had problems meeting that Greek fellow back in the day
:-)
The recording and arrangement of this session was very challenging for us to play it with 2 acoustic guitars! 😅 But, we also had a lot of fun in the process ... we can’t wait to play it live.
In conclusion, our message is this:
Music does not have borders, does not have religion, nor does it serve a specific political party.
In the end, it’s just 12 notes.
