My old sickle mower was long over due for some blade maintenance! Some of the teeth were broken and the rest were just dull. When I would make a pass through thick grass. A third of the grass would still be standing. This was extremely frustrating and I had enough.
Of course I was in a hurry like always. I needed to mow some hay and it was going to rain for the next week. So I decided to just replace the teeth that were broken and sharpen the rest. I only had about 5 spare teeth that I found in my Great Grandfathers junk shed. So that would have to do until I could buy some more.
I was not sure if sharpening the teeth would work as well as I hoped. The factory teeth are serrated. This helps in cutting the grass. When you sharpen the teeth you loose some of the serration. Therefore this would be trial and error. I had been told it would work fine, but had never tried it myself. Hopefully I can get this old mower going as good as new. You will have to watch to find out!
