Rookie Michael Jordan: Undeterred. The first clip was MJ's 1st NBA game. It's rare footage of Michael Jordan a̶c̶t̶u̶a̶l̶l̶y̶ ̶g̶e̶t̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶c̶a̶l̶l̶e̶d̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶t̶r̶a̶v̶e̶l̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶f̶o̶r̶ ̶l̶i̶f̶t̶i̶n̶g̶ ̶h̶i̶s̶ ̶p̶l̶a̶n̶t̶ ̶f̶o̶o̶t̶ ̶t̶o̶o̶ ̶s̶o̶o̶n̶ due to how much emphasis is placed on the championship years. This was well before then. This was also before the first and only major injury of his career, a broken right foot in the 2nd game of his 2nd season. Jordan's floor movement was more rabbit-like before the injury. He jumped higher and flew further. This was Jordan at his most raw. Consider the state of the game of basketball at this time. One examines the differences over time of how teams and individual players went about achieving the goal of winning. Scoring more points than the other team has remained a constant. The further back in time one goes, the greater the emphasis on scoring those points as close as possible to the basket one finds. This is basketball. It's why basketball players are tall. And it's why Michael Jordan was so exceptional. No guard had ever before threatened to make war at the rim like MJ. He was listed at 6'6" and weighed under 200lbs. If you go back and look, you'l notice that his legs looked bigger before his injury. He wore size 13 shoes, had a hand length of 9.75" and spread of 11.375". (spread helps more with gripping the ball). He hadn't yet developed a reliable shot and you can see why. It appears he never needed to. So Father Time left Michael a voicemail in the 2nd game of his 2nd season. Jordan missed more than 60 games and returned late in the season with a more rigid build. There was more of a reluctance to go into a full-sprint on every possession and less a willingness to jump over 7 footers who didn't much care how hard he landed. But Jordan after the injury was stronger and remained just as quick from shorter Point A's to Point B's, which is really all that matters. He developed a consistent and reliable shot form rather than something that looked more like a throw of the ball.
